Art and Design Technology
Intent
At St. Peter's we want our pupils to be inspired by famous artists and designers and to know how best to articulate their own ideas by developing robust skills and deep knowledge across key areas of these subjects. Art and Design Curriculum Overview

Implementation
Pupils tell us that they best enjoy Art and DT when it is linked to their topic, and so this is the approach we often take. Teacher's use their discretion to block some lessons where practical, such as cooking and sewing, otherwise Art or DT features weekly in the timetable. Staff keep updated with pedagogy and knowledge throughout the year with relevant staff attending CPD and disseminating to others. To deliver lessons, teachers often model specific techniques before an element of guided or independent practice. Other lessons start with exploratory or imaginative pupil led open ended tasks, before honing in on the knowledge or skill to be developed.
Impact
Art and DT are open to a large amount of subjectivity when it comes to a finished piece or product and so there is often self or peer feedback used. Formative assessment of the skill acquisition or knowledge learning is ongoing through questioning, observation and recorded work. Staff include and Arts based question in the 'key learning' quizzes each topic, to see what has been retained from prior learning.
The school is proud to have former pupils formally recognised at Burford School for their outstanding artwork and to take part in local community based art projects, such as designing the signs at the local park. We also have received recognition from the prime minister for our art which was entered into a competition.
