Music
Intent
At St Peter's, it is our intent , that pupils will develop a love for music that will be part of the narrative of their lives and bring colour to the experiences that shape them. Learning about music is a vital part of a broad and rounded education. We aim to give pupils the opportunity to make music, think more musically and, crucially, become even more musical. It falls within the creative strand of our curriculum.

Implementation
Music is taught in every class weekly. In Cygnus (YR), music is woven into daily life, with rhymes, singing, listenign to music and playing untuned percussion a regular feature of daily learning. In Tucana (KS1), it is taught by the class teachers either in one hour long lesson or two shorter half hour slots. Singing happens on a daily basis.
In Phoenix (Y3/4), the pupils benefit from learning an instrument taught by the County music service. This learning builds on the solid grounding from R and KS1 and gives pupils the experience of learning a tuned instrument on a weekly basis. In addition, singing continues to be a strong feature of regular teaching.
In Pegasus (Y5/6), a specialist music teacher comes in to deliver our curriculum, building on the learning from Y3/4 with an instrument to develop improvisation and composition further alongside an emphasis on notation. Singing continues to be a regular feature.
The school holds a singing assembly once a week and includes listening to a range of music at the start and end of Collective Worship as well as joining together to sing daily as a school as part of worship.
